Acting and Film

This is a compilation to all the acting and film projects I've been involved in.  I will add more as I am able to find them and track them down.

Feature Film

I was interviewed for the HBO film Call Me Miss Cleo about the telephone psychic network I had briefly worked with decades ago long before my work with Reiki.  Here is the trailer for the film  and these are excerpts from my interview.  The film crew and award-winning director came to my house, transformed my living room into a sound stage and after 3 hours, a few minutes were captured that they used in the feature.

German film that aired in 2007 about a boy writing an email to Bill Gates and his parents tracking him down in Seattle where he went to meet Bill.  Beautiful images of the city and surroundings.  I'm am in it for a few seconds in a light green blazer talking to a female pedestrian while the two male characters are talking in a car at time stamp just a moment or so after 16:00.   Just a moment really but we spent all day filming.

The production team had us as background dress in more formal attire than the average Seattleite would wear.  If you look at the others in background shots, you might notice that.  They also asked if anyone had a tan or brown car for background and I had a Jeep at that time.  I made extra $$ by driving my car in a shot, but I don't think it made the final cut.  As an extra in a film, you are on set all day and usually get a catered lunch or dinner.  You meet actors from all over, including the main ones and learn how professional a film crew can be.

This film got a lot of distribution when it was released in 2012.  Jason Biggs and Joel David Moore who were in American Pie and Avatar were lead characters.  Jake Gyllenhal's father actually directed it and they both look alike.  Compared to Email to Bill Gates, the Grassroots film crew was top notch.  It was an honor to work with everyone.  They filmed the shots I was in at an old school a few miles from my home in West Seattle.  The scenes where Joel David Moore is speaking to a class in a community meeting and rolls up his sleeve to show a tattoo captures one of my expressions.

It's worth renting the film because, as the director said, it is a 'love letter' to Seattle.  The background shots are gorgeous, and during the premiere, he talked about how using the filtered sunlight we get here through our clouds made all the scenery color pop out.  Also, Grassroots premiered the same day as a film his daughter Maggie Gyllenhaal was in, Won't Back Down.  Two Gyllenhaals in the house!

In this trailer, I am talking in the background over the right shoulder of Cobie Smulders at timestamp 1:43.

I was in the Seattle Acting School from 2006-2009 and during that time was actively involved and participating in the acting community.  I had encountered this group 'cold reading' (without rehearsal) scripts and they were looking at having someone take it over and run it.  I stepped in and took it to the next level.  I recruited my acting friends and reached out to local playwrights and screenwriters in the community from about 2008-2010.  I found venues and sponsors and was able to take the 'show' around town where it gained a following.  We charged admission, put it on YouTube and even had a local news network interview me about it.

In this first clip, I introduce the show in my character, Maddie, from the off-Broadway dinner performance I had done, Tony and Tina's Wedding.  Alas, no video has surfaced from those performances, but a photo is included above.  (I am in the purple and black boa in the back).

I was also writing my Reiki book at the same time and in 2010 had to leave Cold Readers to go on the book tour.  The acting experience I had from film and theater prepared me for the book tour and subsequent interviews and teaching I did.

I got a significant amount of press about my work with veterans.  There was a magazine article, a local news station and this clip explaining what we did do.  It was very gratifying work.

There's also much more I need to go through and upload here.  My work with Reiki spanned several decades and much video was captured both professionally and personally.  Stay tuned and check back for more.

Here's a clip from our work helping to offer healing to the industrial Duwamish River.  NPR interviewed me about the work, this was a 'trailer' of it.
