Back to the Future Through Reiki 2: A flash to the 80’s

Last night I dreamt I was able to travel back in time to 1988.  I found my 18 year old self walking on a college campus and I went up to her and started asking her about her life.  She was worried about ‘fitting in’ at the college and if she was studying the right major, biology, because the courses were tough.  I just walked beside her, noticed the smooth skin on her face and also that even though she was quite thin, my 18 year old self was worried about her weight and appearance.

My current self realized this was a lucid dream and had something to do with working with the distant Reiki symbol  I had taught to my Reiki 2 class, so I just ‘held space’ for my 18 year old self in the dream, not telling her not to worry, but listening to her concerns, being a friend.  She seemed happy to be heard.  She smiled.

I noticed when she smiled, the creases around her eyes would later become my current crow’s feet and it made my current self happy that even though my younger self was worried, over the next 23 years, she would still smile and laugh a lot through life’s challenges.

So today, I feel a little ‘between worlds’.  It really felt like 1988 in my dream world.  In addition to seeing myself I noticed the other students on the college campus, they weren’t walking around with cell phones.  They were carrying notebooks not laptops. 

In honor of 1988 I’m wearing a neon colored sweatshirt…maybe I’ll play some Bon Jovi and remember that laughter and smiles go a long, long way.
