Finding the Right People for the Job
I am in the middle of coordinating the biggest volunteer event of my Reiki career thus far: The Alive Expo at the Lynnwood Convention Center November 8-9th.
Through negotiating with the coordinator of the event I was able to get at a significant discount the largest booth space in the Expo (40′ x 8′) to hold 6 Reiki practitioners and 3 massage therapists. We will be called ‘The Relaxation Booth’. The Expo is intended to draw over 5000 people over 2 days and will have mass media coverage.
This is such incredible exposure for Reiki, for The Reiki Fellowship and a unique opportunity for practitioners to interact with the public.
That was my motivation in taking on this project several months ago.
I had hoped more of my Reiki students would have been interested in participating. Some are away for the holidays, but others I feel are a bit intimidated by doing Reiki in public or just don’t have the interest to take Reiki to such a public domain.
So, as volunteer coordinator for this event, I have solicited practitioners who I have felt are up to the challenge. It’s a daily practice. I email, call, reach out and find each unique and dedicated person who wants to be part of this historical event.
I keep my eye on the goal: 10-12 Reiki practitioners and 3-5 massage therapists available each day for the booth.
We’ve got 3 weeks to go and we are half way there. We will reach the goal and it will be an amazing and transformative experience.
My suggestion for others in doing similar work is perseverance and commitment to the goal. Daily visualizations, constant correspondence, and a very positive attitude! And enough lead time to make sure you have what you need!!!
Stay tuned….a lot of light will be shining in the Sound very soon!
